Mrs. McPherson, Miss Wetzel, Mr. Sadowski, and B.C.’s dad were here today. It is March 23rd and it is still really cold out!
Today we were listening to ourselves on a radio. Mr. Sadowski recorded us as we talked and then we turned it on so that we could hear ourselves. It felt kind of good and cool, but silly too. We heard our own voices and we felt funny because we had never heard our voices on the radio before. Some of us spoke low and some of us spoke loud.
We were making sticks so that we could hang them up at our sit spots. Some of us were going to stick them in the snow and not hang them up. We had to practice our drawings first and then we used sand paper to get the paint off of the stick and to make it smooth. We wrote our initials and drew pictures on our stick. Our drawings could have been animals that we chose that reminded us of ourselves. L.A. chose a deer because they are quiet and she is quiet.
After we finished coloring, B.C.’s dad drilled a hole in them so that we could hang them. The sticks came out very pretty and they were all very different. We made a big sun after they were all done.
When we were walking into the forest, we had to climb up the hills. Some of us used our sit spot sticks to help us climb and we learned that we shouldn’t because they break. Some of us kicked the snow to make little steps to walk in. The snow was kind of crunchy and hard. We could stay on top because it was frozen.
When we got to our sit spots we hung our sticks near our spots. We nailed the sticks on some of the trees. The sticks were in separate spots so that they wouldn’t get mixed up and would mark where our spots were.
We stood in the sun and it was warm. We called it a big heater. In the heated spot we were all acting like the animals that we chose to decorate our sticks with.
When we got back inside some of us cut pieces of paper. The blue paper was a rectangle and we tried to cut it in half to make two smaller rectangles. The yellow paper was a square and we tried to cut it in half to make two triangles. We were trying to see how well we could do it.
It was 14 degrees today when we were outside. When we got to school it was 9 degrees and windy so we didn’t go outside right away. It was a beautiful day.
